Critique of Financial Aid Policies and Generational Inequality

Many universities offer two main types of financial aid: 'needs-based' aid (awarded based on a family's financial situation) and 'merit-based' aid (awarded for academic, athletic, or other talents, regardless of financial situation). Critically evaluate how each of these policies might either reduce or reinforce the cycle of economic inequality passed down through generations. In your evaluation, conclude which policy is likely more effective at disrupting the link between family wealth and educational attainment, and justify your reasoning.
