Critique of Market Coordination

Critique the following statement: 'In a market system, the vast number of individual, self-interested transactions leads to chaos and inefficiency. Without a central planning agency to direct producers on what to make and consumers on what to buy, there's no way to ensure that society's most important needs are met.' In your response, explain how markets, through the price mechanism, achieve economic coordination and resource allocation.
