Critiquing an Economic Analysis of a Wage Change

An economist is analyzing why a worker chose to work fewer hours after their hourly wage increased. The economist presents the following argument: 'The reason for the decrease in work hours can be understood by looking at a hypothetical scenario. In this scenario, we imagine the worker facing the new, higher wage rate but with their income reduced just enough so that their overall satisfaction remains at the original level (before the wage increase). The choice they make in this hypothetical scenario fully explains their final decision to work less.'

Critically evaluate this economist's argument. Your evaluation should identify at least one major conceptual error in the construction of the hypothetical scenario and explain why this error leads to an incorrect analysis of the worker's decision.
