Critiquing the Marginal Cost Definition

A manager at a factory states, "To find our marginal cost, we just produce one extra unit and see how much our total cost went up. We don't need any of that complex calculus." Critically evaluate this manager's statement. In your response, explain the relationship between the manager's method and the calculus-based definition of marginal cost (the derivative of the total cost function). Discuss a scenario where the manager's method would be a very close approximation and a scenario where it might be significantly inaccurate.
