Cultural dating uses seriation a method where artifacts with time markers from different sites are put in chronological order based on culture and technological changes in style. This method can be used for objects as far back as 2.5 mya.

Fluorine dating uses the degree of chemical absorption of fluorine around bones in soil. It also can provide context for artifacts found in the same location; however, it can only determine if the artifacts are 100,000 BP or younger.
