Figure 4.13 - Anil's Altruistic Preferences and Allocations

Figure 4.13 illustrates the pest control game with an altruistic Anil through two diagrams. The first is a graph plotting the four possible outcomes on axes representing Anil's payoff (horizontal) and Bala's payoff (vertical), both ranging from 0 to 5. The specific allocations are (I,T) at (1, 4), (T,T) at (2, 2), (I,I) at (3, 3), and (T,I) at (4, 1). Superimposed on this graph are five of Anil's indifference curves, which are parallel, downward-sloping, and convex. Utility increases on curves further from the origin. Notably, the curve passing through the (I,I) outcome is the second from the top, while the one through (I,T) is the second from the bottom. The second diagram is a payoff matrix that shows the same outcomes based on the players' choices of IPC or Toxic Tide: (IPC, IPC) yields (3,3); (IPC, Toxic Tide) yields (1,4); (Toxic Tide, IPC) yields (4,1); and (Toxic Tide, Toxic Tide) yields (2,2).
