De Vogli, Chandola & Marmot (2007) Study on Negative Relationships and Heart Disease

A longitudinal investigation of over 9,000 British civil servants found that those who had reported the highest levels of negative interactions in their closest relationship were 34% more likely to experience serious heart problems (fatal or nonfatal heart attacks) over a 13-15 year period, compared to those who experienced the lowest levels of negative interaction (De Vogli, Chandola & Marmot, 2007).
