Definition of extrinsic motivation

Extrinsic motivation indicates that people can be motivated to complete work in order to receive some sort of payout. This can be a raise, a desired appearance, an award, etc. This motivation can apply to tasks beyond professional work as well, like exercising or producing a certain product.
