Short Answer

Describing Contribution Patterns in a Group Project

In a research study, small, anonymous groups of four people played a game for 10 consecutive rounds. In each round, every participant was given $20 and could secretly decide how much to contribute to a shared project. For every dollar contributed to the project, each of the four group members received a personal return of $0.40. At the end of each round, everyone was told how much the other three members had contributed. Based on consistent findings from such studies conducted worldwide, describe the two primary, contrasting patterns observed in contribution levels between the first round and the subsequent rounds.
