Desensitization therapy can reduce a hypersensitivity reaction by continuously exposing someone to dilute concentrations of an allergen over time. Initially the amount of allergen is slowly increased until an effective dose is reached, then that dose is used for the rest of the treatment.

Desensitization to Allergens

An epinephrine injection is used to counteract a decrease in blood pressure and seek medical help. Patients may need follow-up care involving antihistamines and slow-acting corticosteroids. 

Emergency Systemic Anaphylaxis

Anti-inflammatory drugs may be administered in various ways (i.e. an inhaler or intravenously, or orally) to reduce inflammation.
