Diagnosis as Narrative
For many, receiving an ADHD diagnosis provided a way to make sense of their experiences and challenges. Rather than being the main source of stigma, the diagnostic label often functioned as a narrative tool, giving language and legitimacy to struggles that might otherwise feel confusing or invalidated. This allowed some adolescents to reframe their difficulties as part of a recognized condition, rather than as personal failings.
