The lower part of the diencephalon. The hypothalamus is involved in controling body temperature, thrid, hunger, homeostatic systems, sleep and emotional activity. It also coordinates the autonomic nervous system and the pituitary gland.

These two arteries are branches of the basilar artery and supply the posterior area of the brain and parts of the cerebellum and brainstem.
