Differentiating Viral from Bacterial and Fungal Infections

Antibiotic drugs are specifically designed to kill or inhibit the growth of bacteria. If a patient shows no improvement after taking antibiotics and their laboratory cultures are negative for both bacteria and fungi, doctors can confidently rule out bacterial and fungal causes, making a viral infection a highly probable diagnosis.
