Sample included 581 adolescent girls aged 13-17 from nationwide clinical register for specialized eating disorder treatments in Sweden. Used interviews and self-ratings. 

Study Done on DERS Scale Effectiveness in Adolescent Females with Eating Disorders

Includes 6 subscales: Non-Acceptance (of emotions, including negative ones), Goals (Difficulty pursuing goals when upset), Impulse (Difficulties controlling impulses when upset), Awareness (Difficulties and/or unwillingness to attend to internal emotional signals), Strategies (Perceived lack of emotional regulation strategies when upset), and Clarity (Low emotional understanding). Sum the items to get a total score.


Subscales of DERS Total

Has two versions including DERS-36, with 6 subscales, and DERS-16, which is a condensed version of the DERS-36. Note DERS-16 doesn’t look at emotional Awareness reports.

A self-report and includes 25 items checking for psychosocial difficulties in the past 6 months. Have shown good psychometric properties.

Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ)

The adolescent version has 36 items checking cognitive and behavioral eating disorder symptoms over the past 14 days.
