In a study of 416 admitted patients with confirmed COVID-19 infection, 19.7% of them had cardiac injury. These patients with cardiac injury were at a significantly higher risk of mortality than patients who did not have cardiovascular complications. Risk of death increased as the cardiac biomarker high-sensitivity troponin I (hs-TnI) increased. The figure below illustrates the association between cardiac injury and mortality .
