Discussion of Estimation of the reproductive number of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) and the probable outbreak size on the Diamond Princess cruise ship: A data-driven analysis
The authors acknowledge the difficulty of calculating an accurate reproductive number due to the difficulty of capturing accurate totals of infected persons. That being said, the importance of a fixed population in creating accurate estimates was well-accomplished here due to the nature of the cruise ship. Limitations of the study include: rapid decrease of a susceptible population, confirmed cases removed from the ship for treatment, use of previous data for predictive modeling that may change going forward.
