Diseases Caused by Recessive Alleles

Genetic disorders can be caused by the pairing of two recessive genes, meaning that an individual must inherit one copy of the recessive allele from each parent in order to develop the condition. Examples of such recessive genetic disorders include sickle-cell anemia and phenylketonuria (PKU).
