Challenge of Distinguishing Price Changes from Quality Improvements

A significant challenge in economic measurement is separating price changes caused by general inflation from those reflecting genuine improvements in a product's quality. This issue arises when calculating real GDP and when using price indexes to measure the standard of living. Economists must attempt to disentangle the effects of quality enhancements, such as new features or better performance, from pure price inflation to get an accurate picture of economic reality.
