Downward Shift of the Wage-Setting Curve from Lower Firing Costs under Flexicurity

A key aspect of Danish flexicurity policies is the reduction in costs for employers when dismissing workers. Considered in isolation, this policy heightens the negative repercussions for an employee who fails to meet work standards. Consequently, firms find they can maintain the required level of worker effort even at a reduced wage, which is represented graphically as a downward shift of the wage-setting (WS) curve.
