Early Life Conditions of Genie

In 1970, a 13-year-old girl known as Genie was discovered after surviving over a decade of extreme neglect and abuse. She had been confined to a small, closed room, frequently tied to a potty chair or crib, and was deprived of virtually all social interaction and exposure to the outside world. Consequently, when she was taken into protective custody, Genie lacked basic abilities, including the capacity to stand up, chew solid food, and speak.
