Interestingly it has been shown that children's self regulatory skills play a mediating role on family dynamics and processes. It has also been indicated that these skills also influence children's behavioral issues.

Poverty relation environmental and biological problems are shown to negatively affect self regulatory processes in infants. Higher levels of risk induced by poverty/environment are indicative of lower levels of emotional self regulation.
