Ego's Role in Mediating Id and Superego

In Freud's structural model of personality, the ego functions as a crucial mediator. Its primary role is to find a realistic balance between the primal, pleasure-seeking drives of the id (such as sexuality and aggression) and the internalized moral and idealistic standards of the superego.
