Emotional Intelligence and Fake News Detection Experiment

Preston et al. (2021) conducted a study in which they showed participants real and fake news stories formatted as Facebook posts and surveyed them about the trustworthiness of each post to determine each participant's ability to detect fake news. They then compared these findings with each participants' level of emotional intelligence, which was determined by an EQ survey given to each subject at the beginning of the study. They found that those with higher levels of emotional intelligence were better at detecting fake news.
