Eudicots are defined

eudicots, Eudicotidae or eudicotyledons are mainly distinguished by having two seed leaves upon germination. Well known members of this family are: sunflower, dandelion, forget-me-not, cabbage, apple, buttercup, maple, and macadamia.

  • The earlier name for the eudicots is tricolpates. This name was derived because of the grooved structure of the pollen. Tricolpate pollen has three or more pores set in furrows called colpi.
