Eukaryotic Ribosomes

Eukaryotic cells feature nonorganelle-associated 80S{}80S ribosomes (consisting of a 40S{}40S small subunit and a 60S{}60S large subunit) that are distinct in size and composition from prokaryotic ribosomes. Eukaryotes also contain 70S{}70S ribosomes within organelles like mitochondria and chloroplasts, which are equivalent in size to prokaryotic ribosomes.
