Evaluating a Company's Selection Method
A company is experiencing high turnover in its sales department. The hiring manager's selection process consists solely of a brief, informal conversation with each applicant to gauge their personality and 'gut feeling' about their fit for the role. From an industrial psychology perspective, evaluate the effectiveness of this approach. Identify at least two major weaknesses of this method and explain how they could lead to poor hiring decisions and high turnover.
