Case Study

Evaluating a Job Offer

An individual's satisfaction from t hours of free time per day is described by the function v(t) = 4√t. They currently have a job that allows for 16 hours of free time per day. They receive a new job offer which promises a higher salary but would reduce their daily free time to 9 hours. The individual calculates that the extra salary from the new job is equivalent to an increase of 3 'satisfaction units'. Based solely on the change in satisfaction from free time and the satisfaction gain from the salary, should the individual accept the new job offer? Justify your answer with calculations.
