Evaluating a Policy on Overtime Pay

A policymaker argues, 'To encourage people to work more and boost economic output, we should mandate that all overtime hours are paid at triple the standard hourly wage.' Critically evaluate this argument. In your answer, explain the two opposing effects a higher wage has on an individual's choice between work and leisure, and discuss the conditions under which this policy might succeed, as well as the conditions under which it might fail or even have the opposite effect.
