Short Answer

Evaluating an Alternative Energy Path

A historian claims, "The productivity surge of the Industrial Revolution could have been achieved without coal. Societies simply needed to manage their forests better to produce a much larger, sustainable supply of wood fuel for their industries." Critically evaluate this claim. In your answer, explain why a massive increase in wood supply would or would not have been a viable substitute for the non-renewable energy sources adopted during that period.
