Evaluating Cake Production Strategies

A bakery is deciding between two different processes for making cakes.

  • Process A: A skilled baker uses premium, organic ingredients and manual techniques to create a small number of high-quality, unique cakes that can be sold at a high price.
  • Process B: A factory uses large-scale machinery, automated mixers, and standardized ingredients to produce a large volume of identical, low-cost cakes.

Evaluate the two production processes. In your evaluation, judge which process would be more suitable for a business aiming to serve a niche market of gourmet food enthusiasts, and which would be better for a business aiming to supply a large supermarket chain. Justify your judgments by explaining how the inputs and activities of each process align with these different business goals.
