Evaluating Non-Prescribed Stimulant Use
A college student, feeling overwhelmed by exams, obtains a stimulant drug from a friend who is prescribed it for a medical condition. The student believes the drug will significantly improve their focus and academic performance. After several days of use, they experience a constantly elevated heart rate, difficulty sleeping, and feelings of intense anxiety and suspicion towards their roommates. Evaluate the student's decision to use this medication. In your evaluation, connect the symptoms described to the known risks of such drug use and assess the validity of the student's initial belief about performance enhancement.
