Case Study
Evaluating Patient Expectations
A patient who recently started taking medication for an anxiety disorder tells their therapist, "I'm so relieved I'm finally taking this pill. I can't wait for it to completely cure my anxiety so I never have to feel anxious again." Based on your understanding of how these types of medications work, explain why this patient's expectation might be unrealistic and describe a more typical outcome.
