Evaluating Responses to a Wage Increase

A common assumption is that if a person's hourly wage increases, they will always choose to work fewer hours because they can earn the same income in less time. Critique this assumption. In your response, describe how two individuals with very different personal financial obligations might react differently to a significant wage increase, and justify why their preferences for free time versus consumption would lead to these different choices.
