Evaluating Solutions for Market Inefficiency

Consider a region with numerous small, isolated farms producing an identical, perishable crop. Each farmer sells only in their local market, with no knowledge of prices or supply levels in other nearby markets. This results in significant price differences between markets and frequent instances of simultaneous surpluses and shortages in different locations. A government body proposes to solve this by creating a central distribution hub. All farmers would be required to sell their entire harvest to the hub, which would then distribute the crop to all the local markets. Critically evaluate this proposal. Would this solution establish a competitive equilibrium? Justify your reasoning by explaining the conditions necessary for a competitive market to function.
