Evaluating the Long-Term Economic Consequences of Forced Labor

A common argument states that while the forced labor system of the 16th-19th centuries generated significant wealth for European traders and American plantation owners, it simultaneously caused long-term economic harm to the African regions from which people were taken. Evaluate this argument from an economic perspective. In your answer, you must use the concepts of 'human capital' and 'institutional quality' to explain the mechanisms that could lead to such a long-term negative outcome.
