Evaluating the Scale of Technological Change

An early invention in textile manufacturing allowed a single worker to produce the same amount of yarn as eight traditional spinsters working by hand. A subsequent, more advanced machine allowed a small team of operators to generate an output equivalent to over 1,000 spinsters. Defend or refute the following claim: 'The second machine's impact was simply an extension of the first; it did not represent a fundamentally different kind of economic shift.'
