An embryo is the designation for a multi-cellular organism after it has successfully implanted in the lining of the uterus. Following implantation, the embryo's basic structures begin to differentiate and develop into areas that will form the head, chest, and abdomen.

A developing human organism has just completed its journey down the fallopian tube and has successfully attached itself to the wall of the uterus. At this point, its cells are beginning to specialize, forming the initial layers that will eventually become the nervous system, skin, and internal organs.
