Example of an Independent Variable: Classroom Learning Method

In an experiment investigating how technology use in the classroom affects learning, the independent variable is the type of learning method participants are exposed to (for example, learning algebra via a computer program for the experimental group versus from an instructor in a traditional classroom for the control group) because this is the factor manipulated by the experimenter.
