Example of Expectation-Induced Asthma Symptoms: Sodergren & Hyland (1999)

A demonstration of expectation-induced asthma symptoms is seen when individuals with asthma are asked to breathe an inert substance. When these participants falsely believe that the substance will cause airway obstruction, many of them subsequently experience actual asthma-like symptoms (Sodergren & Hyland, 1999).
