Explaining the Work-Leisure Trade-off

An individual's satisfaction is determined by two factors: the amount of free time they enjoy and the quantity of goods they can purchase. They can only earn money by working at a fixed hourly wage. In your own words, explain the fundamental trade-off this individual faces. Why can't they simultaneously maximize both their free time and their consumption of goods?
