Factors Determining the Duration of a Depreciation-Inflation Spiral

The persistence of a depreciation-inflation spiral is not indefinite. Its duration is primarily determined by the level of public tolerance for continuously increasing inflation and by the degree to which policymakers are responsive to this public sentiment. The spiral will likely continue until the social or political costs of rising inflation become too high, compelling a change in policy.
