Factors Influencing In-Context Learning Effectiveness

The practical success of in-context learning is determined by two key elements: the quality of the prompts, which often requires substantial engineering effort, and the inherent capabilities of the pre-trained LLM. More powerful models are better equipped to leverage in-context learning, whereas models lacking relevant pre-training data for a specific task may fail regardless of prompt quality.
