File IO with SciPy Documentation

Some helpful MATLAB functions in the scipy.io package include:

-loadmat(file_name`[`, mdict, appendmat]) Load MATLAB file

-savemat(file_name, mdict`[`, appendmat, …]) Save a dictionary of names and arrays into a MATLAB-style .mat file

-whosmat(file_name`[`, appendmat]) List variables inside a MATLAB file

MATLAB Files

Within the scipy.io package, there is the scipy.io.wavefile module. Use this when dealing with WAV files. It includes these helpful functions:

-read(filename`[`, mmap`]`) Open a WAV file

-writefilename, rate, data) Write a NumPy array as a WAV file.

These objects let us access the data within each WAV file. This data can be edited and then rewritten to create a new, different-sounding WAV file.

SciPy is a great tool for reading certain kinds of files into Python or passing SciPy/NumPy variables into a program such as MATLAB.

Fourier Transform using SciPy

scipy.ndimage is SciPy's submodule for processing n-dimensional NumPy arrays, most commonly used for image data. It provides core computer-vision primitives such as convolutions, filters, gradients, and morphological operations. Compared to OpenCV, it offers lower-level, more barebone functionality rather than application-specific computer-vision routines.

The `scipy.ndimage` module provides functions for multidimensional image processing in Python. It includes operations for filtering, mathematical morphology, interpolation, object measurements, and feature extraction on NumPy arrays that represent n-dimensional images.

SciPy and NumPy Miscellaneous Functions

SciPy builds directly on NumPy arrays. This snippet shows how to create NumPy arrays of different dimensionality and dtype, including 1-D, 2-D, and complex-valued arrays:
