Forms of Economic Appropriation

In the context of Pareto's economic framework, appropriation refers to efforts aimed at capturing wealth created by others, rather than producing new wealth. Examples of such activities include rent-seeking behaviors like lobbying for favorable regulations or subsidies, legal disputes over property rights and patents, theft, and the creation of monopolies to extract consumer surplus. These actions transfer existing resources rather than creating new ones.
