The establishment of the Center for Investigating Healthy Minds was prompted by a challenge from His Holiness, the 14th Dalai Lama, to its founder, Dr. Richard J. Davidson. The Dalai Lama urged him to use rigorous scientific methods to study positive qualities of the mind.
