Freudian Theory on the Origin of Neuroses

According to Sigmund Freud, negative emotional states, which he termed neuroses, arise from the suppression of unconscious sexual and aggressive urges. This idea was heavily influenced by the sexually repressive social climate of his time, where sexuality was a taboo subject.
