Freud's Early Theory of Hysteria

Based on Josef Breuer's description of Anna O.'s treatment, Sigmund Freud formulated an early theory that hysteria was the result of repressed traumatic experiences from childhood, specifically sexual abuse. He believed these memories were hidden from consciousness but continued to manifest as physical symptoms. This conclusion was a point of disagreement that ended his collaboration with Breuer.
