Frisson, also known as aesthetic tingles, refers to feelings of shivers down the spine and neck due to an emotionally moving experience, such as beautiful music or art. It is a type of somatic marker, which are situations when physical experiences correspond to emotions.

Somatic refers to key body processes that relate to affective and emotional responses. The somatic marker hypothesis is a framework for decision making that values long term over short term consequences. Neural substances that regulate homeostasis, emotion and feeling are key with this hypothesis.

The amygdala is key for triggering somatic states. It connects the stimulus to it's affective and emotional attributes. The responses induced by the amygdala are short lived. The emotional and affective response is done through the hypothalamus.
