When a logo is purely decorative without any functionality then the alt tag should follow the same format as those of decorative images: a null value alt tag (alt=""). However, when an action can be performed onto a logo this should be described in the alt text.

Logos are a unique type of functional image because they:
- Might not meet color contrast ratios
- Might not meet text size requirements

Functional images are logos, icons, images within a button, and images that are actionable (ie. a link). The alt text for functional images is different than alt text for other types of imagery. This is because functional imagery depicts the function of the image, not its contents or what it looks like. When an image is within a button, add an alt tag that explains its function with an action verb.
