Schalk argues that Black disabled cultural workers are growing and improving Black disability politics and that this growth in turn in changing how we mobilize outside of just Black disability politics work.

The work of the Harriet Tubman Collective did not just end with "Disability Solidarity: Completing the 'Vision for Black Lives'", rather the HTC went on to create additional statements in 2017, 2018, and 2019 that address racism and racist exploitation by white mainstream disability rights organizations.

"Disability Solidarity: Completing the 'Vision for Black Lives'" highlighted the erasure of disability, and larger problems with ableism and audism in the Movement for Black Lives. The Harriet Tubman collective asserted that no successful movement has existed without disabled people's leadership. The statement ended with a list of names of Black Disabled/Deaf victims of police brutality and was signed by seventeen Black Disability cultural workers.

After the release of "Disability Solidarity: Completing the 'Vision for Black Lives'" the Movement for Black Lives updated their vision statement to use the term disability instead of "differently-abled" and to include disability across four of the six policy statements. This new statement noted how Black disabled individuals are more likely to be profiled by the police, experience poverty, and are disproportionately impacted by racial violence in health care and voter disenfranchisement.
